MAGIC® DMPG170PSA is a one–side–imageable, 170 gram poster paper with a permanent pressure–sensitive adhesive (PSA) and a release liner. The heavy weight paper and PSA coating combination is designed to reduce paper cockle and provide easy handling during the mounting process. DMPG170PSA is ideal for posters and POP displays and can be used with the newer ink systems equipped with both dye–based and pigmented ink sets.

Printer & Ink Compatibility:
The material can be used on a variety of wide format printers such as: Epson 9000/9500 and other wide format water–based piezo printers, ColorSpan®, and Encad NovaJet® printers with both pigmented and dye–based inks. DMPG170PSA is compatible on Hewlett–Packard DesignJet® 2000/3000/5000 series printers with both dye–based and pigmented inks but expect reduced black density and slightly less print quality. Product is not compatible with HP1000 series. Pigmented inks offer a more stable iimage, less subject to light fade.

Printer Settings:
To optimize print quality, printers should be set for unidirectional printing and ″Enhanced Multi-pass″ print quality mode. The recommended maximum ink saturation level is 200% for all printer types. Ink saturation limits can vary due to ink types, ink drop volume and humidity, so ink saturation levels should be optimized for specific printer, ink and software combinations. Over–saturation will result in paper cockle and possibly printer head strike.

Color Calibration:
ICC color profiles can be obtained for selected RIP, ink and printer combinations.

Material Handling:
Store unused material as well as prints waiting for lamination or mounting in an environment of less than 50% relative humidity. In high humidity, the paper will absorb moisture, and this will interfere with lamination adhesion and print performance. Due to the thickness of the DMPG170PSA in combination with the liner, 3″ cores are recommended on HP printers to reduce the potential for liner separation and for easier printer loading. Most printers have 3″ core adaptor plugs.

Surface Preparation & Recommended Surfaces:
Always ensure that the receiving surface is thoroughly cleaned, free of dust, dirt or cleaner residues. Painted metal, glass and standard graphic art mounting board surfaces should be cleaned with standard glass cleaners or isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Poor surface conditions will cause adhesion loss or failure. The product is designed for use on smooth, flat indoor surfaces such as: Stainless steel, glass, acrylics, ABS, polycarbonate, Plexiglas®, Foam Core®, and Sintra®. Textured surfaces and wood tend to promote poor adhesion. Application of this product to dry wall is not recommended due to the potential difficulties in removal. Always pretest your specific substrate prior to actual application.

To ensure adequate edge adhesion, it is recommended that 1/2″ be trimmed from the edges of the final print prior to posting. For best results, it is recommended that a professional installer be used. Dry application method is recommended. For large prints or more difficult surfaces, very small amounts of a wetting solution can be used to aid in the adhesive installation. Wetting solutions will damage the printed surface if image is not laminated. DMPG170PSA is not waterfast. Spray a small amount of wetting solution on the application surface. Water, Windex window cleaner, or diluted soap solution can be used for wet applications.

To give added surface protection from dirt and abrasion, a pressure-sensitive overlaminate is recommended. Heat activated laminates should not be used because the heat can degrade the adhesive peel strength. Overlaminating one side may cause the product to curl toward the laminated side and the edges to lift.

Removal will require physical scraping or use of solvents as this is a paper-based product with a strong solvent–based permanent adhesive. By inserting a sharp knife or razor under a corner of the graphic and peeling the graphic carefully, the graphic will remove in fairly large strips. Most residue can be removed by picking with the adhesive side of the removed graphic. If this is unsuccessful, soak the residue with a mild solvent (i.e., isopropyl alcohol, ethanol).
